Sandy beach cottage on Wellfleet Bay

"Light on the Mayo" is a newly built, finely appointed, 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom cottage located across the road from the famous "Mayo (swim) Beach" in Wellfleet Bay.

The cottage was built in 2018 and is incredibly cozy with unobstructed views of Mayo Beach and Wellfleet Harbor. It also has excellent privacy and high-end amenities. The house includes central heat and air conditioning in each bedroom as well as the living room. It has a modern kitchen with a beautiful dining nook.

The beach cottage is layed out in a "C" configuration with each of two mirror-image bedrooms having queen-sized, incredibly comfortable beds, on either end. A fully loaded and modern kitchen is open to the small banquette dining table, which features a custom designed driftwood table made by a local artist, as well as the cozy living room. You will enjoy amazing full views of the water from the dining room and living room during the day and quiet solitude from each bedroom at night that is protected by a sandy dune in the backyard, far away from any road noise, of which there is almost none.

The cottage is fully air-conditioned and/or heated via splits that combine with full insulation to keep the cold air in and heat out during summer and vice versa during spring and fall.

The bathroom is small but enjoys a large shower with an oversized showerhead and a removable wand with a rubber duck curtain. It has a toilet and sink as well, of course, and is privately located in the west hallway between the west bedroom and the stackable washer and dryer closet.

The living room includes two sitting chairs, a three person sofa, with four surrounding windows that face the beachfront. There is a swing-away smart TV located to the side of the fireplace (not functional) that can be turned to be viewed from the living room, kitchen, or dining area. The six windows in the front of the cottage get amazing sea breezes (and ocean sounds) that can be drawn through the cottage into each bedroom when the bedroom windows are opened which makes for a wonderful sleeping experience for those who enjoy open living.

Each bedroom is nearly identical to each other with full sized closets and dressers for storage. Three windows sit above the queen bed's headboard and can be opened for air. Each bed has a spring box with a very thick and comfortable pillow-top mattress.

The front yard is naturally landscaped and fenced from the road with barn posts and includes a picnic bench and umbrella which is a perfect spot to enjoy a Box Lunch "Porkey's Nightmare" sandwich. In addition we have adirondack chairs that face the water where we like to enjoy our morning coffee or tea.

The beach is as wonderful a place to swim and spend a day with your family as any on the Cape. The sand is soft and clean and the water is the warmest anywhere in New England thanks to the shape and shallowness of the bay that protects the waters from waves and keeps them warmed by the sun. The water is a mere 100 feet from your front door at high tide, so close that you can go back and forth to the bathroom or to get a drink or a book with ease.

Light on the Mayo is located across the road from our semi-private beach that has direct legal access to our unit and the two on either side of us. There is no public access to our beach and no where nearby to park for non-residents. All beaches in Wellfleet are free for the public to enjoy no matter who owns them however access is private and our access is right in front of our cottage. Kendrick is a sleepy and slow road that gets more bicycle and beach walking traffic than four wheeled vehicles and is really only used by nearby residents and those who's destination is the pier. Visibility is very good and cars drive extremely slow and safely on this road.
